 Due to the current popularity of the classical Ottoman style, alems are featured prominently in home decoration.

The word of '' Alem '' means ; Guider. On the other hand; Alems are described as ensigns under which the communities join.. 

An Alem, the name sake of this design, is a metal crest placed on a standard or a dome.  It is believed to symbolize the power of the Central Asian Turks and were thought to protect them from evil, later developed a different meaning after the Turks accepted Islam
